My children and I have a new favorite breakfast here at our house. Is it frugal? Probably not. Could I make it more frugal? Not without a lot of work.... (making homemade biscuits) and I don't think I'm willing to do that... yet.
It's biscuits and homemade apple butter. It's delicious! I served the apple butter to a friend, and she thought it was awesome too. So I'm posting the recipe online. Several of my friends have recommended Pillsbury's frozen biscuits, and having tried them many times now, I can concur that they are awesome! The kids LOVE them!
So, Pillsbury biscuits and homemade apple butter. It's quick, easy and it's made overnight in the crockpot.....can't get any better than that.
Apple Butter
4 cups of peeled, chopped granny smith apples
2T balsamic vinegar
1T ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, divided
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Combine apples, sugar, vinegar, 2T butter, cinnamon, salt and cloves in crock pot. Cook 6-8 hours on low. After 6-8 hours stir in remaining 2T butter and vanilla. Serve with warm biscuits. Makes 2 cups.

Oh my gosh, the apple butter was DELICIOUS!!!! best apple butter I have ever had. I bet you couldn't tell by the 4 biscuits that I ate with it! mmmmmmm...good stuff!!!
I make homemade biscuits. I don't know if you have ever tried to freeze them. I just cut them and flash freeze them on a pan then put them in a ziploc. Just like having the ones that you buy in the freezer section. I also use my Kitchenaid mixer with the dough hook to mix the dough then roll out and cut. I can quickly make a bunch of batches to freeze.
This cound really good. We love those Pillsbury frozen biscuits and have them pretty often. Now I can't wait to try making the apple butter to go with them! Thanks so much for posting this.

Last summer/fall I made apple and peach butter. we are down to the last jar of peach butter but only a few more months for peach season around us!
